- "I'm disappointed in you.. I didn't mean for this to happen. I believed you were a good boy... If you refuse, then I'll have to retrieve it myself."
— Geppetto
The Nameless Puppet is the optional final boss in Lies of P. It is fought after defeating Simon Manus, Awakened God if Pinocchio refuses to give Geppetto his heart. It is a puppet created from the converted corpse of Geppetto's dead son Carlo.
Background[]
The Nameless Puppet was the first puppet ever created by Geppetto in his attempt to revive his dead son Carlo. To accomplish this, he transformed a corpse (often presumed to be Carlo's own corpse) into a puppet and installed the P-Organ into it which contained Carlo's Ergo. However, the puppet's Ergo efficiency was not only inefficient but it was also destructive and risked destroying the precious Ergo. Not wanting to risk this, Geppetto removed the P-Organ and sealed the puppet away in a trunk. He then sought to create a new puppet that could absorb Ergo, thereby strengthing the P-Organ enough so that the Nameless Puppet's body would not destroy it.
This eventually resulted in the creation of Pinocchio. To accelerate the puppet's growth rate and remove any potential obstacles, Geppetto instigated the Puppet Frenzy, causing the majority of Krat's population to be killed. However, Simon Manus and the Alchemists proved to be a major obstacle in Geppetto's plan. With Simon no longer in the picture, Geppetto believed there was nothing that could stop him from seeing his son again.
Description[]
The nameless puppet was the first puppet made by the old man that was mounted with a P-Organ. Its Ergo efficiency was not just unremarkable, it was destructive; thus the nameless puppet was not chosen for the boy's body and sealed away.
Gameplay[]
In the opening cutscene, if Pinocchio chooses to refuse to give Geppetto his heart, the latter becomes furious and opens the trunk. Removing his glove, Geppetto reveals a control device built into his left hand that manifests glowing blue strings that link to the Nameless Puppet, which rises from the trunk and begins the fight.
Phase I[]
In the first phase, the Nameless Puppet wields a two-handed greatsword resembling a pair of elegant scissors, sharing a variety of moves with Pinocchio; these can be blocked or parried, but it can sequence a large number of attacks in succession to wear down stance. Once it reaches the end of a sequence, it will shoulder its weapon for a moment to prepare for another attack. If too much distance is put between them, it can dash to close the gap, or it can twirl away to get some distance from an aggressive approach. If given the opportunity, it can heal itself with up to two Pulse Cells.
Phase II[]
Once its health bar has been worn down, a cutscene plays out where Pinocchio and the Nameless Puppet charge at each other, the former with a horizontal slash and the latter with an overhead swing. After a brief cut to black, Pinocchio is revealed to be untouched, having severed the top of the puppet's head, which falls off. It also shows the control wires are cut, which turn golden. After a convulsion and a flash of energy from its opened head, the Puppet enters its second phase, its sword now wreathed in red energy and its damaged head sparking.
This second phase is significantly more aggressive and organic, as its attack speed and variety drastically increases. It can switch between an even faster dual-wielding mode where it splits its sword into two weapons, or it can merge them again for stronger, spear-like attacks. It also gains a number of AOE attacks and charges.
Once about half of this health bar is depleted, the puppet convulses and shorts out again, releasing a blast and gaining a number of acrobatic, jumping attacks.
Once the full health bar is depleted, a cutscene plays showing the weakened puppet resting for a moment, before catching Pinocchio off guard and putting him on his back. Leaping into the air, it performs a plunging spear attack against the vulnerable Pinocchio, aiming straight for his heart. However, after a cut to black, it reveals that Geppetto took the attack with his body to protect the heart containing his son's precious Ergo. With this momentary distraction, Pinocchio rams his mechanical fist through the puppet's torso and rips out its core, destroying it.
