The Petrification Disease is a major epidemic taking place in Lies of P.
Basic information[]
A disease that claimed the lives of many residents of the city of Krat. There is no reliable information about where it came from and what caused the spread of the disease in the city. It is known that there were at least two waves of the disease.
The main symptom is that the patient's blood changes, becoming blue in color, like the rest of the body, based on external forms of the corpses of patients. At the same time, the person feels severe cold, and in some cases, scabies. The body is also covered with crystals or some kind of stone scales. At a later stage, the patient suffers from organ failure. The disease presumably affects not only the physical condition, but also the mental health of the patient. The sick were quarantined.
The text from the official statement attached in front of the entrances to the quarantine quarter on Elysion Boulevard reads:
Beware of stone disease! Closed for quarantine. No entrance for unauthorized people. Local residents are sick in soul or body. Don't talk to them.
The rulers of Krat wanted to prevent technology leakage and strictly limited travel from the city. However, this also played a cruel joke: when the stone disease began to rage, the inhabitants were trapped within the city walls.
The truth about the disease however, was far more sinister than a mere infection: The Petrification Disease was discovered by the Alchemists in a mine near Krat, and it was quickly determined that it was caused by overexposure to Ergo. When Simon Manus learned what he could do with Ergo, specifically, allowing people to read each other’s thoughts given specific circumstances, he started an initiative that would incorporate Ergo into as many aspects of daily life in Krat as possible to hasten its retrieval. Thus, when the outbreak started, there was no containing it, because the city was already saturated with Ergo.
Furthermore, the Alchemists under Manus’ instruction had no interest in finding a cure because the more people they could infect, the more opportunities they would have to run tests regarding Manus’ claim that it was a catalyst for humanity’s evolution.
