"I'm surprised you defeated Victor. Geppetto's creations are truly marvelous."
— Simon Manus

Simon Manus is a character in Lies of P. The leader of the Alchemists, he is first met in the Grand Exhibition Conference Room after defeating Champion Victor.

Background[]

In his youth, Simon was experimented on by his father, a member of the Alchemists, which gave him the ability to read the minds of others. However, despite having these abilities, his father viewed him as a failure and abandoned him. This prompted him to seek out the power to become a god in order to prove his worth, as well as create a world where lies no longer existed, and only truth remained, even if it was forced. As time went on, he climbed the ranks of the Alchemists and eventually became the right-hand man of the organization’s leader, Valentinus Monad.

Following the death of Valentinus, Simon took his place as the leader of the Alchemists and began performing experiments with the Petrification Disease, seeing it as the catalyst for humanity’s evolution. Eventually he learned that Sophia, Valentinus’s daughter, was a “Listener,” which gave her the ability to hear Ergo and communicate with Puppets. She inherited this power from her mother Isabelle. Simon sought to exploit Sophia’s power in his pursuit of godhood and imprisoned her in Arche Abbey, constructing a machine that harnessed her powers and resulted in a massive outbreak of the Petrification Disease across Krat.

Through his experiments with the Petrification Disease, Simon created the Carcasses, mindless, aggressive, zombie-like creatures, and through further experimentation, created enhanced humans such as Champion Victor. Simon’s plans to ascend to godhood, however, would be hindered when Giuseppe Geppetto, a member of the Alchemists, defected from the order, began the Puppet Frenzy to kill anyone infected with the Petrification Disease, and stole the Arm of God, a relic of great value to the Alchemists, in order to revive his son Carlo, who had died from the disease.

Description[]

A treasure hunter was among those who were made to live an immortal life. However, he was deemed a failure and abandoned, and then he set out on a journey to become a god to prove himself.

Gameplay[]

Simon is encountered in the Grand Exhibition Conference Room following the player’s defeat of Champion Victor, standing on a balcony looking over the room alongside Laxasia the Complete. He talks with P about his work creating enhanced humans from the Petrification Disease, and asks him what he thinks the Alchemists had created, prompting P to either answer [Hope for a cure] or [Monsters]. Whatever his answer, Simon will give P the Saintess of Mercy Statue Gallery Key and invite him to come to the Isle of Alchemists to see what they had accomplished. After reloading the area, Simon and Laxasia will be gone.

Trivia[]

  • Although not an original character from the book, Simon Manus acts as a combination of both the Coachman and the Terrible Dogfish. Like the Coachman he deceives people of fulfilling their desires, and when becoming "The Awakened God", he transforms into a hideous monstrosity like the Dogfish.
    • His middle name "Pistris" also translates to sea monster, fish, shark and whale.
    • There is a biblical evil magician called Simon Magus, and "Manus" is a latin word meaning "Hand" like the relic he planned to use.
